Hot Toys Spider-Man 3 Sixth Scale Figure (Black Suit Version)

The second of two Spider-Man figures in my collection (I'll post pics of the first one at a later date), this one is the black-costumed version with a highly detailed likeness of Tobey Maguire (something the original sorely lacks).

Normally, the figures arrive quite tight and take some time to loosen up for proper posing.  I had a problem with this figure in that the removable head sculpt didn't separate at the neck but at the body base, which shouldn't have happened.  This resulting in me trying to replace the neck to the body without causing damage to the costume surrounding the neck area.  Unfortunately, I wasn't successful as you can see from the second pic.  At this point, I'm quite tempted to give Sideshow Collectibles a call and see if they can replace this figure.  It's a minor issue but for what these figures run for, I'm certainly going to try and get a replacement.

The specs and summary for this 12" figure are as follows:

  • Authentic and detailed fully realized likeness of Spider-Man in black suit, featuring the likeness of Toby Maguire as Spider-Man / Peter Parker in the Spider-Man 3 movie
  • TrueType body with 30 points of articulation
  • Approximately 30cm tall
  • Five (5) pairs of interchangeable palms with silver web pattern including:
  • One (1) pair of relaxed palms
  • One (1) pair of fists

  • One (1) pair of palms for climbing
  • One (1) black Spider-Man suit with silver web pattern on the head and body and spider icon on the front and at the back of body

Portal 2 Knick Knacks

Being the huge Portal 2 fan that I am, I was excited when NECA obtained the license to create some game related collectibles.  So far, they've released the Aperture Science Portal Handheld Device which is amazingly bad ass.  Hopefully, they'll get around to releasing some figures of Atlas and Peabody, two of the main characters in the game.   In the meantime, I've gone around looking for some Portal 2 collectibles but only came upon three items that interested me: bookends, a talking LED Sentry Turret and a Wheatley LED flashlight.

The bookends, which are quite durable and of good quality, was purchased at Forbidden Planet in midtown Manhattan.

The Portal 2 LED Sentry Turret, also purchased at Forbidden Planet, is not as well made.  The legs are quite fragile and take work just to get them to hold the turret up without tipping over.  But once I got it to stand, there was no problem with it staying upright.

The turret stands at only 3 1/2 inches tall and speaks five (5) lines from the game:

  1. "Preparing to dispense product."
  2. "I don't hate you."
  3. "Target acquired."
  4. "Are you still there?"
  5. "Goodbye!"

And finally, the Wheatley LED flashlight was purchased from Amazon.  I wish the body and arms had been made of metal but that would've driven the price up too high.  At least the arms move.  As it is, it's only 2 1/2 inches tall and nicely detailed.

I'm quite pleased with my little Portal 2 collection and hope NECA releases some figures to add to my collection.

Hot Toys Indiana Jones Sixth Scale Figure

Where my Jack Sparrow is currently my most detailed 1:6 scale figure, Indiana Jones is my least.  But what it lacks in likeness, it makes up with cool highly-detailed accessories.  Standing at it's custom 12" tall, the figure has a passing resemblance to Indiana Jones as played by Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark.  Unfortunately, the figure looks mostly like a generic action figure doll.  The specs and summary are as follows:

  • Newly devoloped, hand-painted head sculpt with Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS)
  • Movie-accurate facial expression with detailed wrinkles, skin texture and beard
  • Two (2) hair styles, including one (1) for wearing fedora and one (1) for wearing headscarf
  • Stands approximately 30cm tall
  • Muscular body with over 30 points of articulation
  • Five (5) pairs of interchangeable palms including:
  • One (1) pair of faux-leather gloved fists
  • One (1) pair of faux-leather gloved palms for holding pistols
  • One (1) pair of relaxed palms
  • One (1) pair of fists
  • One (1) pair for holding pistols
  • Two (2) sets of clothing including:
  • STYLE 1:
  • One (1) faux-leather brown jacket with zip and pouches
  • One (1) khaki shirt with pouches
  • One (1) pair of khaki pants
  • One (1) brown fabric belt
  • One (1) faux-leather brown belt with buckle for linking to whip and pistol holster

Hot Toys Jack Sparrow Sixth Scale Figure

One of the most amazingly detailed 12" figures in my collection is my Jack Sparrow 1:6 scale figure.  I thought the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie was pretty good but after being disappointed with the second and not bothering with the third, I never thought of purchasing a figure based on any of the movies.  But when a friend of mine picked his up, I couldn't believe the detail in the likeness and costume and just had to have it.  In addition, this was the first figure I had seen to have PERS (Parallel Eyeball Rolling System) which controls the eyes into looking in different directions via a joystick in the back of the figure's head, adding much more options for cool looking poses.

Standing at the usual 12" tall, the incredibly detailed likeness of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tide has the following specs and summary:

  • Authentic and detailed fully realized likeness of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribben: On Stranger Tide movie
  • Approximately 30cm tall
  • TrueType body with over 30 points of articulation
  • Highly detailed hair sculpted piece by piece with accessories and red hair band
  • Two (2) interchangeable faces with different gestures with real-like beard and plaints on chin
  • Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS) patented by Hot Toys Limited for both faces
  • Nine (9) pieces of interchangeable palms with rings and glove on right side including:
  • One (1) pair of relaxed palms
  • One (1) pair of palms for holding flintlock pistol
  • One (1) right palm for holding saber
  • One (1) pair of palms for holding rudder or telescope
  • One (1) pair of palms showing his iconic gesture
  • One (1) leather-like detachable brown-colored hat
  • One (1) piece of cream-colored long-sleeved shirt
  • One (1) blue and brown-colored patterned vest
  • One (1) dark brown long jacket
  • One (1) pair of dark brown pants
  • One (1) dark brown and one (1) light brown leather-like belt with buckle
  • One (1) dark brown leather-like patterned shoulder band with saber sheath
  • One (1) pair of brown boots
  • Two (2) flintlock pistols
  • One (1) saber
  • One (1) left lace wrist band and one (1) right wrist band
  • One (1) scarf
  • One (1) piece of feather on waist
  • One (1) compass
  • One (1) small telescope
  • One (1) head sculpt of his mother
  • One (1) duck's foot sculpture
  • One (1) movie-accurate rudder with base and movie nameplate
  • Figure stand with Captain Jack Sparrow nameplate and movie logo
