And finally...

LEGOS

There was a time when I took comfort in jigsaw puzzles as a way to help me cope with and distract myself from pain that I was dealing with from physical issues.  Since then, surgery has helped but I had continued to enjoy the calm and serenity the jigsaw puzzles had provided.  Now, I've transitioned over to Legos.  Funny thing is, Legos was never something that appealed to me.  Maria had gotten me a small Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Lego set a few years ago.  It was fun putting it together but I never sought out other sets afterwards.  It wasn't until Lego released a set from one of my favorite video games, Horizon.  I contemplated picking it up but ultimately decided against it.  It wasn't until a friend shared his purchase and pics of the finished project that I went ahead with my purchase.  Since then, I've added other sets to my collection but they're smaller than the Horizon (Tallneck) kit. That will change in the coming year.

My “Favorites of 2019” List

As I prepared to make this year-end list, I realized I was down to just 1 blog post a year but, honestly, why post my ramblings here to be ignored when they’re already being ignored on Facebook?  ;)

MOVIES

This year, in addition to the “October Horror Movie Challenge”, I also held a “Worst Superhero Movie Challenge” and a “Steven Spielberg Movie Challenge”.  Somehow this translated to me seeing around 30 less films than the previous year.  I partly blame excellent tv programming for this.

My 2019 movie list can be viewed here.

Like last year, I will have 2 movie lists.  The first list will be my top 10 favorite 2019 movies followed by honorable mentions.  Second list will be movies released prior to 2019 but I never got around to seeing when they released.

MY TOP 2019 MOVIES:

Favorite Movies and TV shows of 2018

Well, here we are closing out another year.  This year, more than any other, we can thank the creative people making entertaining movies and tv shows that help keep us from going mad from real life atrocities.

2018 continues a healthy string of consecutive years where the quality of tv shows outperform and outpace the quality of movies.  There used to be a time when feature film actors wouldn’t entertain the chance to appear in a network television program, even for a guest appearance.  Now, not only have most actors appeared on the small screen (in either network, cable or streaming format) but some have even starred in their own shows.  As much as I love movies, television shows are my current favorite form of entertainment.  For this reason, I will start with movies.

I watched too many movies (over 300) this past year to post them all here but the list can be viewed here.  I will have 2 separate favorite movies list.  First will obviously be my favorite movies released in 2018.  Second will be favorite movies I saw in 2018 from previous years.  Like the first list, this second list will only consist of movies I’ve never seen before.  Otherwise, the same movies would be on the list every year.

FAVORITE 2018 MOVIES

1. Avengers: Infinity War
2. Mission Impossible: Fallout
3. A Quiet Place
4. Hereditary
5. Game Night
6. Ant-Man and the Wasp
7. Searching...
8. Annihilation
9. Upgrade
10. Ready Player One

Honorable mentions: Black Panther, Tully, Creed II, Crazy Rich Asians, Bohemian Rhapsody, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and BlackKklansman.  Also, just need to mention that the Netflix special Steve Martin and Martin Short: An Evening You Will Forget For The Rest Of Your Life is one of the funniest thing I saw all year but doesn’t make the list because it’s only about 60 minutes long, not feature length.  But highly recommended.

FAVORITE MOVIES WATCHED IN 2018 FROM PREVIOUS YEARS

1. The Greatest Showman
2. Snitch
3. Jack Reacher
4. Blade Runner 2049
5. Before I Wake

SCORE AS OF JANUARY 7

2017 October Horror Movie Challenge

It's October so that means it's time for the yearly horror movie challenge.  Woo-hoo!!!

Last years challenge was unlike any I've had before, for 2 reasons.  First, I had the most number of people join me than ever before, making the challenge that much more fun.  And that accounts for the second reason, I watched the most horror movies I've ever seen in a month.  You can see the results here.  While I don't have plans to top or match the total number of movies from last year, this year I thought I'd set my sights on total number of movies I've never seen before.  I'll still watch some of my favorites throughout the month, but I've missed many B horror movies throughout the years so this will be my chance to remedy that.

As always, there are 2 options in the challenge and are as follows:

1. For people with busy schedules, we have the basic challenge.  This is to watch 13 (or more) horror themed films through the month of October.  Of the 13 movies, 2 must be movies you're viewing for the first time.  These will be in bold.
2. For those that have the time, we have the ultimate challenge. This is to watch 31 (or more) horror themed films during the same timeframe mentioned above.  For this, 10 of them must be movies you're viewing for the first time.  As mentioned above, these will be in bold.

As always, I've invited some family and friends to join me in the challenge.  I'll be updating their lists accordingly.
